Beatle Pete Best 1960-61-62

1962
The Beatles auditioned on January 1, 1962 for Decca records. Unfortunately Dick Rowe turned them down (because they were not commercial enough). The Beatles returned to Hamburg to play at the number 1 venue the Star Club. This was quite apt as they had been voted Liverpool’s number 1 group in the Merseybeat poll. While in Hamburg they were informed by Brian Epstein that they had a contract with EMI, and on their return a recording date was set for June 1962. The Beatles met producer George Martin for the first time at their initial visit to Abbey Road Studios on June 6, 1962, when they recorded 'Love Me Do' and 'P.S. I Love You'.
The finished songs were to become The Beatles first British chart hits in October 1962. Unfortunately in the interim period between June and October 1962 Pete Best was dismissed from the group. A dismissal that is still clouded in mystery to this day as no real reason was ever given.
