Beatle Pete Best 1960-61-62

1960
During 1960 the Silver Beatles played on and off without a permanent drummer. Finally a chance to play in Hamburg came along through their manager Allan Williams, but they needed a drummer. They had met Pete Best at The Casbah and had seen him perform there with his own group the Blackjacks. Paul McCartney phoned Pete Best in August and asked if he fancied joining the band. Pete spoke to his own group regarding the approach, and as none of the Blackjacks wished to turn professional, they gave Pete their blessing. Pete Best auditioned, became a Beatle, and left for Hamburg, Germany where they played both the Kaiserkeller and Indra clubs.
It was here that they met Astrid Kirchherr (Beatle photographer and later Stuart Sutcliffes wife) and Klaus Voormann ( designer of the Revolver album and later bass player with John Lennon).  Upon their return from Hamburg five months later a leather-clad Beatles played their first Liverpool gig.  This was at The Casbah on the 17th of December.  Beatlemania was born.
